Cantagalli (Italian) Large Madonna and Child Plaque Tin Glazed Earthenware. The reflective Madonna and Child is mounted on a blue background amid colorful vegetation. Late 19th-and Early 20th-Century. Measures 31 1/2 inches high by 23 inches wide with holes at top and bottom for mounting on garden wall or interior. Painted Cantagalli rooster on the base. Minor glaze flaws and losses and a reglued chip on the lower right corner. The Cantagalli workshop was founded as early as 1494 and effectively re-founded in 1878. The later founder's son is noted to have devoted much of his time to study a technique style and history of Italian pottery and was well regarded fellow scholars. William De Morgan is known to have visited the Cantagalli workshops during his visits to Florence. AGOPB will not pack or ship items; please contact the gallery for our list of approved shippers.
