Pair of Sevres-style Porcelain Vases, France, late 19th/early 20th century, each baluster-form vase with blue ground and painted Napoleonic battle scenes based on 1836 paintings by Emile Jean-Horace Vernet, signed "Gallis," acorn finial cover with gilt crown and laurel, painted gilt "N" and laurel on base, resting on square plinth (stamped "France" on underside); one depicting Napoleon with binoculars, based on Battle of Walgram , mark worn and indistinct on underside of cover; second based on Battle of Jena , with indistinct mark on underside of cover, ht. 26 1/2 in. with cover. N.B. Both paintings by Vernet, Battle of Walgram (July 6, 1809) and Battle of Jena (October 14, 1806), are housed at the Chateau du Versailles. Provenance: Property of a Boston Area Philanthropist.
