Cheyenne Beaded Hide Triangular Flap Belt Pouch, c. 1860, the buffalo hide pouch beaded on the flap and pouch ends with geometric designs done in small green, black, and white, and white center-red seed beads on a white background, a long buffalo hide strap is sewn across the back, lg. of flap without the fringe 13, wd. 4 1/8 in. Provenance: Collected in 1864 from the Cheyenne by James B. Beard who worked on the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad and hauled lumber to Denver in the 1860s. Included with the lot are an original note by Beard that accompanied the pouch, a copy of James B. Beard's obituary, and a family genealogy; from a private New England collection.
