Dutch School, 17th Century Wedding Portrait of a Woman Signed indistinctly, perhaps "J. S. K.../fecit," u.l. Oil on copper, 6 1/8 x 4 1/8 in. (15.5 x 10.4 cm), framed. Condition: Loss to painted surface l.r. corner, scattered retouch, craquelure, surface grime, copper panel mounted to paperboard support. N.B. This small oil was probably one of a pair of portraits commemorating a wedding. The woman holds a pink, or carnation, symbol of love and marriage, and one can see a gold ring on her finger. There would have been a pendant portrait of her husband. The great delicacy of the rendering of the lace and fine modeling of the face and hand are reminiscent of an artist specializing in miniatures.
