Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington (American, 1876-1973) Reaching Jaguar Signed "Anna V. Hyatt" on the back of the tree trunk, numbered "#14" at the edge of the base, stamped "GORHAM CO FOUNDERS Q477" on the base. Bronze with brown patina, height 9 in. (22.9 cm). Condition: Oxidation or similar to some of the interstices, minor dust to the interstices. N.B. A premier animal sculptor, Anna Hyatt Huntington had the opportunity to study Señor Lopez , a jaguar from Paraguay who was the first feline occupant of the Lion House at the Bronx Zoo. The artist created two sculptures based on that jaguar, and one version of the pair are installed as gateposts at the zoo. This bronze is a small version of the Reaching Jaguar .
