Signed and dated "David Hockney 84" in pencil l.r., numbered "65/70" in pencil l.l., publisher's dry stamp l.r., publisher's label affixed to the backing. Color lithograph on paper, sheet size 41 x 49 3/4 in. (104.2 x 126.3 cm), in the original frame hand-painted by the artist. Condition: Deckled edges, rippling, floated within the frame, not examined out of frame. N.B. Hockney is considered one of Britain's most dominant Pop artists, although it is a categorization that he denies. He is a virtual jack-of-all-trades, embracing new media - from acrylic paint to PhotoShop - and working as a painter, print maker, photographer, and even a set designer. Pembroke Studio Interior employs simple lines and a narrow color palette dominated by primaries. This in conjunction with a special experience that is both an homage to Picasso and bears a close kinship with the results of his own photo-collage work creates a Pop sensibility.
