Jeff Koons (American, b. 1955) Puppy , 1998, edition of 3,000, published by Art of this Century, New York and Paris. Incised with signature and date, publisher's stamp, Porcellano C. Villari stamp, and edition stamp "804/3000" all on the underside. Glazed white ceramic, height 17 3/8 in. (44.1 cm), contained in original Styrofoam-lined cardboard box. Condition: Minor surface dust to interstices. N.B. This multiple was created by Koons to reference his colossal work Puppy of 1992 that sits at attention at the entrance to the Guggenheim Museum Bilboa. The Guggenheim Puppy depicts a West Highland terrier covered in flowers, reminiscent of both an 18th century formal garden and a parade float. The Puppy presented here isn't covered with flowers, but it is a vase meant to hold them.
