Appleton "Household Edition" of 1871-1880 (Gimbel D66) and the Harper and Brothers edition of 1872-1877 (Gimbel D68), which were bound in an identical style. 4to, publisher's green pictorial cloth stamped in black and gilt. The D. Appleton editions, which bear Appleton's name on the cover and the Chapman and Hall imprint on the title pages, comprise Oliver Twist (2 copies), Great Expectations, American Notes, Nicholas Nickleby and Bleak House. The Harper and Brothers editions, which bear the Harper and Brothers imprint on the covers and title pages, comprise Martin Chuzzlewit, Dombey and Son, Nicholas Nickleby, Pickwick Papers, Little Dorrit, The Old Curiosity Shop, and Barnaby Rudge. Rubbing to boards with ends bumped; some intermittent foxing; otherwise a fine, although incomplete, set.
