consisting of a circular open piercework yellow gold pendant depicting a central rose gold seated mother with child against a foliate background with flying bird above within an intricate vine and bird motif surround accented with round cabochon cut turquoise, the reverse composed of a central intricately engraved circular plaque depicting a kneeling man joining hands with a youth against a foliate surround, plaque is bordered with rose gold fauna against the yellow gold foliate piercework surround, pendant measures approximately 56. 00 mm in diameter and is suspended from a cable link chain punctuated at regular intervals with bezel set round cabochon cut turquoise and engraved bird motif links. Hand inscribed: I.SCHOR NY (maker's mark depicting a bird). NOTE: Ilya Schor (1904-1961) was a talented artist unrestrained by medium, creating works of Judaica through his painting, sculpture, engravings and jewelry. Born in what is now Poland into a Hasidic and artistic family, he received an eclectic education through apprenticeships and formal scholarship in Warsaw and, later, Paris. Fleeing Europe in 1940, he and his family settled in New York. He flourished through his many commissioned works including important projects from various synagogues. Retrospectives of his work have been exhibited in the United States and abroad in venues such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Jewish Museum of New York, and the Sydney Jewish Museum in Australia. 28.90 dwts.
