James Yarbrough (American, 20th century), "Gondolier of Death" from the "Dance of Death" Series, mixed media on wood, signed at upper right "Yarbrough", with inventory labels to verso. Figural work depicting a Venetian canal scene with a skeletal gondoliere (a Venetian boatman who propels a gondola) transporting a a body to the Isola di San Michele for burial, with a self portrait of the artist and his grandson in the doorway of a canal adjacent home. Framed approximately 26.5" x 51". Unframed approximately 23.75" x 48". Note: Alternate artist spellings include "Jim Yarbrough."
