18th/early 19th century, the vessel in the natural form of the tusk, deeply carved depicting a whimsical new year celebration and parade, centered upon a figures walking with a dragon model with one boy at the front thrusting a model of a flaming pearl into the air, the rest of the scene showing musicians with drums, cymbal and a trumpet as well as acrobats and figures playing and onlookers watching the procession, with one woman holding an infant and watching the procession from a balcony, the mouth rim having a thick rim with an undercut border of scrolling clouds, all interspersed by craggy pine trees, stands of bamboo and rocky outcrops with lingzhi fungus and grasses, raised atop a fitted and pierce carved hardwood base. * Height of ivory 7 1/2 x width 6 x depth 5 1/8 inches.
