Ms. Breckinridge Patterson's paternal great grandfather was John C. Breckinridge, vice president under James Buchanan, and her grandfather was B.F. Goodrich, founder of the eponymous company. As a cinematographer Ms. Breckinridge Patterson was honored by the American Film Institute for her black and white silent film, "The Forgotten Frontier", regarding frontier nurses. As a journalist, she broadcast from Berlin with Edward R. Murrow on the lead up to World War II.
