Boston: James R. Osgood, 1882. Folio. Original brown cloth stamped in gilt and blind, t.e.g. First edition of this famous study of animal movement made by Leland Stanford and Eadweard Muybridge wherein it was proven that all four hooves of a horse are at one point off of the ground while at a fast gallop, thanks to Muybridge's employment of stop-motion photography. Some minor rubbing to boards; portions of frontispiece restored; otherwise fine.
