s. l., n.d. (c. 1865) By Lieutenant J. T. Worleman, 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Manuscript map of the battlefield at Vicksburg and the camp of the 114th Illinois infantry as of June 18th, 1865. Map also indicates the movements of armies and skirmishes, including where Sherman's corps crossed the Big Black River on May 18th, 1863 and both Sherman and McPherson's route to Mill Springs. In the lower right corner, Worleman notes that the flags indicate where battles are fought. Sites include Jackson, Raymond and "Bayou." Creased with loss and some browning at the folds. He notes: "The 114th Ills. left Duck Pt May 2nd, 1865 and marches as the figures denote; performing a march of 200 miles in 17 days and in the mean time was engaged in the Battle of Jackson and destroyed 10 miles of R. Road. The Regt. was engaged in front of the rebels works around Vicksburg from May 19th to 31st, losing in killed and wounded 16 men. The figures will show the present Camp of the 114th, June 18th." Together with a three-page autographed letter signed by Thomas E. Orr, January 25, 1853, to his brother, with a lengthy poem about coming home from the war ("This war is sure a righteous one, as one may plainly see, or why does Abe's men get so far, while setting niggers free"), and a list of births, deaths and marriages. All framed and matted. Size of map 19 x 14 inches.
