London: Smith, Elder, 1878. 52 vols. 8vo, finely bound by Birdsall in red morocco stamped in gilt, each with unique onlay polychrome morocco full-body portrait replicating, in leather, an illustration of one of Thackeray's characters to the bottom right corner of the front boards, each with felt-lined slipcase, a.e.g., gilt dentelles, silk moire endpapers. Number 287 of 1,000 limited numbered sets. Illustrated throughout with black and white engraved plates. Minor wear to spines with front board detached on one vol. and starting on some others; wear to some slipcases; otherwise a fine set.
