Venise: Ferd. Ongania; New York: Amedeo Ongania, 1895-1897. 4to, rebound in highly ornamental wood panelling, 21 shaped compartments cut away from each cover to reveal decorated mother-of-pearl onlay, highly reminiscent of the filigree and intertwined decorations in Venetian window arches. Ongania was the most important bookseller in Venice in the nineteenth-century. Some soiling to plates; wear to spine with fraying to foot and edgewear to boards; panels starting to detach from pastedown; two portions of the wooden panelling and sections of the onlay detached on the rear panel; otherwise fine.
