By James H. Jeans. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1931. 8vo, blue cloth, cover of original dust jacket laid in. Inscribed presentation copy signed by the author and signed and inscribed by Edwin Hubble to half-title. The inscription reads: "In memory of a session with the 100-inch reflector on Mt. Wilson. Edwin Hubble." Hubble used the 100-inch telescope to prove that the Milky Way galaxy was only one of many in the universe. A tipped in newspaper heading is entitled "Nebulae Speeding 15,000 Miles a Second Into Space Discovered by Mt. Wilson." A close contemporary of Hubble, one can only speculate as to the connection between these two individuals. Minor fading to spine; otherwise a fine copy.
