Owned by Captain Timothy O'Neil of the East Chicago [Indiana] Police Department, Chief of Detectives in the notorious John Dillinger case. According to local press, of the five shots fired at Dillinger as he left the Biograph Theatre in Chicago the night of July 22, 1934, O'Neil's gun fired one of the two shots that killed him. Having tracked the killer after his escape from the Crown Point Jail, Captain O'Neil and fellow East Chicago Police Sergeant Martin Zarkovich received the tip from the "Lady in Red," who was to finger Dillinger as he left the theater. O'Neil and Zarkovich shared the government's $5,000 reward for Dillinger's capture. Together with O'Neil's personal archive of newspaper articles mentioning the incident, his involvement and the gun.
