$2,928
(Paris: Hautecoeur-Martinet, c. 1868). Folio, 3/4 morocco, gilt titles to spine, 5 raised bands. An elaborate costume book, with 104 beautifully hand-colored lithographed plates of women's fashions. Some styles appear to be pure fantasy or perhaps theatrical, such as the dancing "Bacchante" in lion skins, decked in grapes and leaves, or the "Diablotin," pulling the fiery orange, horn-like attachments of her tiara upward to demonstrate her character. Occasional offsetting to pages; slight wear to boards; bookplate tipped in front pastedown; otherwise fine.
