Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Mico Chlucco, King of the Seminoles, a folding map, and seven engraved plates (one folding). Plate depicting a turtle appears to have been slightly trimmed. The first edition of this important early account of the American south and its indigenous peoples. Rebacked with original backstrip preserved; wear to boards; gnawing to corner of ten leaves and folding map, not affecting text; areas of foxing, offsetting, and soiling to text; contemporary ink inscriptions to flyleaf; otherwise a sound copy.
