French. Late 19th/early 20th century. Figural bronze and marble mantel clock surmounted with a young farmer or gardener with a hoe and basket of produce signed and after the work by Rousseau and inscribed on the circular base of the bronze "Retour Des Champs, Rousseau" ("Return from the Fields"). The figure mounted on a marble base housing the unmarked time and strike clock works within a circular glass face cover with porcelain dial and Arabic numerals. The stepped marble base with ormolu leaf scrolls to each side and raised on gilt bronze acanthus scrolled feet. With Key. Height 21". Length 10.5". Width 5.25".
