English. London. 1701. Maker's mark indistinct, possibly William Fawdery. Partly fluted circular on a gadrooned spreading circular foot, with two grotesque mask ring handles on a stippled ground, the sides with foliage motifs above flutes and chased with two scroll cartouches engraved with a coat of arms and a crest within fish scale, grotesque mask and strap work mantling. Diameter 11 ¼". (49 oz) The masks are those of Lisle impaling another, possibly Drewe. Provenance: Acquired by Sir Sydney Barraut for Summerhill, Staffordshire and later installed at Crowe Hail, Bath, in 1961. Christie's, Sale #7821, Lot #258. (30000/40000)
