Liturgical Pali, written in pale green on 66 black lacquered palm leaves. Red lacquered wooden boards, decorated with gold. From the library of King Thibaw who ruled Burma from 1878 to 1885. constitutes the fifth and last section of the Pali language Sutta Pitaka, one of the sacred texts of Therevada Buddhism. Written between 500 BC and the first century AD, its contents include sermons and doctrinal and ethical discourses attributed to the Buddha. It also contains all the major poetic works of the Pali canon. Each leaf 21 1/4 x 4 inches.
