Refers to diarist Corporal, later Sergeant Andrew Jackson, remarking "Wounded at the Battle of Bull Run Aug 30, 1862" and "Wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness May 5, 1864". Newspaper clippings hand-dated "June 4th 1897" laid-in. Newspaper clipping from the Brockton Times dated Tuesday, April 29, 1897 with article on dedication of U. S. Grant's tomb laid-in rear endpapers. Heavy wear to boards; front and rear boards and f.f.e.p. separated; lacking backstrip; fading and soiling to boards and text. Diary 32mo., blue leather over flexible boards, gilt edges. Details daily activity of Corporal Andrew Jackson and his regiment in the year 1863. Tracks their movement from an encampment near Fredericksburg, Virginia to the Battle of Gettsyburg and the Battle of Mine Run (?), and then as Jackson returns home for Christmas leave. Contains 1 piece of ephemera belonging to Jackson laid-in beneath rear board. Also contains almanac of year 1863. Boards and backstrip separated; boards rubbed and torn; fading and soiling to boards, backstrip and text.
