Nine partial autograph manuscript pages from Chapter V of his book s. l., n.d. Creased horizontally; each with some dampstaining. John Muir (1838-1914) was a Scottish born naturalist whose environmental activism helped preserve some of the United States' most beautiful natural areas, including the Yosemite Valley and Sequoia National Park. His first book, The Mountains of California, published in 1894, was based on notes he took during his years of wandering through the Sierra Nevada Mountains as well as the geography and history of the region. In 1892, Muir founded the Sierra Club, whose motto is "Explore, enjoy, and protect the planet." The Sierra Club is still active in environmental conservation today. Approximately 6 1/8 x 8 1/2 inches each.
