19th century. Carved and polychrome wood sculpture of a horse head. Horse head depicted with an iron bit in its mouth and with red helmetesque ornament running down his checks. Horse with crackled and weathered finish to wood and painted elements. Accompanied with later heavy bronze metal leaved wreath form with one type of leaves on each side that meet at ribboned tie at bottom. Bronze metal wreath surrounds the animal's protruding head to create triumphant equestrian sculptural imagery. Horse head height 18.5 inches, width 5.6 inches, depth 8.7 inches. Wreath approximately 36 inches x 28 inches. According to the consignor, horse head purchased from Cadeaux Antiques in Atlanta, Georgia in July of 1997. Accompanied with copy of invoice from Oetgen Design Incorporated, Atlanta, Georgia for with description of bronze wreath from Truillage. Also accompanied with copies of Polaroid images of horse head and business card from Cadeaux: Debe Stricklin Antiques, Atlanta, Georgia with handwritten notes on horse head. Provenance: Cadeaux Antiques, Atlanta, Georgia whereby purchased by Mr. Thomas V. and Mrs. Marie B. Patton, Atlanta, Georgia in 1997.
