George III style Chippendale mahogany tester bed with ornate shell, arabesque and foliate carved ornamentation at top above tapered columnar clusters above acanthus leaf forms on block supports on footboard. Shaped headboard at center flanked by rectangular support posts connecting to ornament. Top with purple and cream silk gingham pleated skirt. Height 87.25", width 63.75", depth 85.25". Provenance: Sotheby's New York: Important English Furniture, European Ceramics, October 23, 1998 as Lot 474 whereby acquired by Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, Atlanta, Georgia.
