Early 19th century. George III style mahogany carlton house desk or writing table with ornate inlaid decoration of flowers, ribbon swags, urns, scrolled foliates, bacchanalian facial masks and birds throughout. Desk with inlaid tooled leather top surrounded by sloped hinged drawers on sides, pie wedge topped drawers with sectioned compartments and slot at top in corners and two hinged doors flanking four small pull out drawers at center. Apron with two pull out drawers. Writing desk raised on four tapered legs with futher inlaid ornamentation. Height 40.25", width 48", depth 26". Provenance: According to the consignor, Sotheby's in the late 1990s whereby acquired by Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, Atlanta, Georgia.
