Red Grooms (American 1937- ), "Corsica"-1994, watercolor on paper. Painting depicting five figures on a boat in Mediterranean Sea. View of the island coastline behind the woman in swimwear and sunglasses with picturesque buildings and resting livestock. The artist Grooms presumably sitting opposite women with red pen in hand ready to draw the scene, top of paper with artist's signature and "CORSICA" in top right corner. Various pencil marks throughout indicating color such as "SHADOW BLUE" and individual's names. Dated "7/24/94" lower right. Framed 28.5" x 34.5". Unframed approximately 19.25" x 25". Grooms' art is included in 39 museum collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art in Nashville, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Art, and the Knoxville Museum of Art. In 2003, Grooms was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Academy of Design.
