THIS LOT IS BEING SOLD WITHOUT RESERVE PROVENANCE: Inherited by the present owner from Maria Fedorovskaya, Ukrainian ? migr?, renowned gypsy dancer, and later founder of the famous New York Russian restaurant, the Virgin Mary`s body is surrounded by the apostles, while a standing Christ raises Mary`s soul to the heaves, where two angels welcome it, the gilt metal oklad with an ornate chased and repousse clothes and ivy border, oklad with Cyrillic maker`s mark of 'VS', Cyrillic assayer`s mark of Victor Savinkov 'VS 1864', 84 standard. Egg tempera, and gesso on wood panel. 22.5 x 17.8 cm (9 x 7 in.)
