Depicting the triumphant Procession of the Palms descending into Jerusalem`s Church of the Resurrection. Astride a white donkey, Jesus descends the Mount of Olives with his 12 apostles following him on the left side of the icon. On the right side, before him extends the city of Jerusalem and its wealthy citizens with their children, who gather the palm branches and lay their cloaks at his feet, some even climb a tree to get the best view. The Raising of Lazarus is additionally depicted in the upper left corner. An ornate floral border on a black ground frames both scenes. Egg tempera and gesso on a wood panel. Two insert splints on the back, 40 x 34.6 cm (15 3/4 x 13 5/8 in.)
