New York: Rizzoli International, 2000The present lot, Statue for Sign over Delphi, was the inspiration for the artist's later major mixed media work, Sign Over Delphi, which appears in the Plavinsky catalogs and monograph. It is also formerly of the Russian Art collection of the Duke University Museum of Art (now the Nasher Museum of Art). In viewing the later resulting work Sign Over Delphi, the viewer can see that this image was incorporated by the artist into that large piece. While unsigned and undated, Statue was verbally authenticated by the artist. The previous owner of this drawing verbally discussed this piece with Dmitri Plavinsky and his wife upon visiting them in Moscow, January 2011, before his passing.
