A Hofner left-handed vintage bass circa 1966 with mother of pearl pickguard, rented by Paul McCartney from Harris Hire in Beckenham, England, on numerous occasions. Accompanied by a handwritten letter signed by Phil Harris of Harris Hire, dated January 10, 2014, stating that the bass was first rented to McCartney circa 1997 at the National Exhibition Center in Birmingham and on February 21, 2002 by Rose Hackney Barber production company for McCartney at Duke Island Studios, London for a rehearsal or video shoot prior to the Driving World Tour (2002). McCartney's management rented the bass again on May 22, 2012, for Ronnie Wood's Somethin' Else (YouTube, 2012) show in which McCartney was the special guest and on July 14, 2012, at Hyde Park in London for McCartney's performance with Bruce Springsteen for the "Hard Rock Calling" music festival. McCartney ended up using another bass on stage that night, but was reported to have played this bass backstage. Harris states that the bass has been part of Harris Hire since the 1980s and became part of an exhibition in November 2013, Universal Music rented the bass for use in a display promoting the 2013 release of The Beatles, On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2 .
