According to the photographer, this candid photograph was taken backstage at the Mosque Theater in Richmond, Virginia, minutes before Elvis Presley walked on stage. Wertheimer has recounted that he saw the young woman flirting with Presley and bet Presley that he couldn't kiss her -- and he decided to prove he could. Presley was 21 at the time.
