American Reconstruction Era, United States cavalry sword or saber, circa 1870. Military sword with brass metal hand guard surrounding leather grip with fully intact wire ornamentation. Brown leather strap for carrying attached to saber scabbard or holder marked "R.I.A". Bottom of steel blade near grip marked with U and other indistinguishably letter above serial number 1881.
