A letter written by former boxing World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Marciano in 1967 regarding Muhammad Ali’s conversion to Islam. The typed letter features a Marciano black and white portrait on “Rocky Marciano Enterprises, Inc.” stationery. The letter is addressed to “Mr. William Reinmuth, Jr./ c/o Sports Quest (Editorial)” with statements including “I never really sat down and looked into Clay’s new found religious/ choice but I can tell you that when he first made it public to you/ guys back in ’64 after the Liston fight, you know as well as I do, it/ took the whole world by storm! I mean, there wasn’t a newspaper in/ the country that didn’t have that as a front page headline. To me, a/ man’s religious choice is his own personal decision and should stay/ that way.” When asked if he could have defeated Ali in a real fight, Marciano replied: "I'd be conceited if I said I could, but I'd be lying if I said I couldn't." The letter is dated January 9, 1967, and signed by Marciano in black ballpoint pen. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. 11 by 9 inches PROVENANCE From the Collection of Harlan Werner Categories:
