$6,400
A framed collection of items related to Muhammad Ali's illustrious amateur career and the National Golden Gloves tournament. Centered at the top of the frame is a vintage right-handed Spalding "Golden Gloves" boxing glove. The glove was not worn by Ali, but it is signed "Cassius Clay" in gold marker. Beneath the glove is a digital print from Photo File Inc., featuring a teenaged Ali, fists raised, in "Lou KY" boxing trunks. Under the photo are several items from the March 5, 1958, Golden Gloves Finals in Chicago, Illinois, including an "employe" pass, a box-seat ticket, a blue and white ribbon labeled "Official" with attached boxing glove pendant, and three more "Golden Gloves" pendants. Ali participated in the National Golden Gloves tournaments in 1957 and 1958, but he did not win until 1959, and then again in 1960. In fact, the 1958 championship was earned by Kent Green, who defeated Ali in the 1957 Golden Gloves tournament in one of Ali's few amateur losses. The plaque at the bottom of the frame reads "Cassius Clay/ AKA/ Muhammad Ali/ "The Greatest of All Time." The glove is accompanied by a certificate of registration from Online Authentics. 35 1/2 by 20 inches, overall PROVENANCE From the Collection of Harlan Werner Categories:
