$4,800
A double-sided leaf from Stan Laurel's personal scrapbook, featuring an ink drawing of a rosy-nosed souse with the adjoining inscription "Well, Stan! May your path be a 'Rosy one' [with arrow pointing to drawing] your old pal, Chas Chaplin, Fred Karno Co., Seattle, Wash, U.S.A., Dec. 28th, 1912." The drawing is almost certainly a depiction of Chaplin's popular inebriated character from the comedy sketches A Night in an English Music Hall and A Night in a London Club , for which Stan Laurel was Chaplin's understudy. Directly next to the drawing is a trimmed 5 by 2 inch photograph of Laurel dressed as Chaplin's later and more famous character "The Tramp." Surrounding these items, and covering the verso, are press clippings related to Laurel's two-reel comedy films and vaudeville performances, including photographs of the Pantages Theatre with Laurel's name on the marquee. 14 by 12 inches PROVENANCE From the Collection of Lois Laurel Hawes Categories: Laurel & Hardy
