Pierre Vinet, who sadly passed away in March 2010, was Peter Jackson’s longtime friend, collaborator, and still photographer starting with Braindead (Wingnut Films, 1992) all the way through to King Kong (Wingnut Films, 2005) and was the only still photographer employed and allowed on the set of The Lord of the Rings (New Line Cinema, 2001, 2001, 2003) to document filming for the entire four-year shoot. Every on-set unit still taken during actual filming released in conjunction with the promotion and marketing of the three films, from movie posters, to books and calendars, and merchandising of every kind, was captured by this incredibly passionate and beloved artist. This collection of four Nikon cameras, two F4’s and two F5’s are all in excellent condition and were bought and used solely for shooting still photography during the production of The Lord of Rings (New Line Cinema, 2001, 2002, 2003) and have not been used since. They have been tested to ensure that they are still in good working order. The accompanying image show’s Pierre Vinet on the set of The Lord of the Rings telling Peter Jackson how he sees the shot.
