$7,500
Multi-media on canvas painting by Rick Griffin, Grateful Dead 25th Anniversary image, circa 1990. The large-scale image shows a skeletal grim reaper holding a guitar aloft in the left hand and a traditional scythe in the right hand. The skeleton wears a red cape and a blue crown of laurels. Griffin has flanked the skeleton with both a "G" and a "D" to form a circle, and each letter is overlain with a "2" and a "5" respectively. Griffin has limited the palette to black, red, white, and blue, evoking a patriotic color scheme. The image was commissioned by the band to be used on promotional materials celebrating the Dead's anniversary as a band. Not examined outside of frame. 42 by 42 inches, overall; 35 1/2 by 35 1/2 inches, sight PROVENANCE Acquired from the Estate of Rick Griffin Categories:
