A New Era Pittsburgh Pirates hat game worn by Tim Foli. The fitted black wool hat features an embroidered yellow Pittsburgh Pirates "P" logo, accented with yellow appliqued stars. The stars featured on the hat were handed out by teammate Willie Stargell to players on the Pirates for notable plays or accomplishments. These stars came to be known as "Stargell's Stars." Foli's number "10" is written on the underside of the hat brim in black marker, with "New Era" and size "7" tags stitched into the hat's sweatband. Due to the facts that the only games Whalen Monica, who obtained the hat directly from Foli, attended during the 1979 season were the All-Star game and the World Series and that Foli was not named to the 1979 All-Star team, it is believed that Foli wore this hat in game action during the 1979 World Series. One appliqued star has become detached from the hat but is still present. PROVENANCE From the Collection of Walen "Whaley" Monica Categories:
