A two-page love letter handwritten on lined paper by Michael Jordan on Saturday, December 31, 1988, at 2:30 a. m. to Amy Hunter. In the letter, Jordan writes about his love for Hunter, when they met for the first time in Portland and how he feels horrible for the way he has been treating her. He writes that he needs to take control of his destructive behavior before he can fully commit and that "I could not give you the best you deserve." Jordan continues, "I/ promise that if somewhere down the/ line I get another chance with/ (page turn) you, I will not mess things up." Jordan signs the letter "Amy, I love you/ Always/ Michael Jordan." The two-page letter is accompanied by an envelope addressed to Hunter at her New York City apartment. The reverse of the card has a Washington, D.C., address. The post office stamped the letter "Indianapolis, IN" dated "January 2, 1989." It is believed Jordan sent the letter from Indianapolis since his Chicago Bulls played the Indiana Pacers on December 30, 1988, and the letter would not have been postmarked until after the New Year's holiday.
