A print of a black and white photograph, originally taken on July 14, 1953 at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. The photograph features Ted Williams, standing next to then commissioner Ford Frick, about to throw out the cerrmonial first pitch of the game. Frick invited Williams to throw out the first pitch after Williams had retruned from serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Williams began his service in January of 1952, returning in July of 1953, with his appearance at the '53 All-Star game coming just four days after being released from military service. Standing directly to Williams' right in the photograph is Whalen "Whaley" Monica, the original owner of this photograph. Monica obtained a copy of the photograph, and then brought it with him to the 1954 All-Star Game in Cleveland, Ohio, to obtain Williams' autograph. The photograph was then signed by both Williams and Frick at the 1954 All-Star Game with Williams inscrbing "To Whale/ Good Luck/ Ted Williams." Monica then proceeded to obtain 16 additional signatures on the back of the photograph at the 1954 All-Star game including Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Red Scheondienst, Duke Snider, Bob Lemon, Minnie Minoso, Ray Boone, Virgil Trucks, Dean Stone, Marty Marion, Al Rosen, Hank Bauer, Al Dark, Carl Erskine, Bob Swift and National League President Warren Giles.
