A slice of royal wedding cake from the marriage of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh on November 20, 1947. The traditional fruitcake is contained in the original presentation box. Printed in silver ink on the top of the box is "E P/ Buckingham Palace/ 20th November 1947." The cake was referred to as The 10,000 Mile Cake because the ingredients were donated by the Girl Guides of Australia and the alcohol for the cake came from South Africa. Due to rationing for the war effort, the cake was a gift to the queen from the Girl Guides, a group her majesty was a member of and supported. Eleven other cakes were given to the new king and queen, but The 10,000 Mile Cake was considered the main wedding cake. 4 by 2 3/4 by 1 1/4 inches Categories:
