A group of four dark brown toupees custom made for Gene Kelly. The toupees are made of human hair and hand tied one strand of hair at a time to a lace mesh with silk bands in the interior to give the appearance of a scalp. Studio wigs at the time were custom made and fitted to measure by the star's head and hairline. The first piece has an MGM label that reads "American in Paris S-33-H." An American in Paris was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won six. The second piece has an MGM label pinned to the wig that reads "Gene Kelly 10-8-56 #1." The third has an MGM label pinned to the wig that reads "Gene Kelly 10-8-56/#2." The fourth has a bias label that reads "G.Kelly #3." The toupees were acquired from MGM upon the closure of its hair and wig department. Accompanied by a canvas wig block and a copy of An American in Paris . Categories:
