$7,680
A blonde custom-made three-quarter wig for Grace Kelly in one of her final roles, as Princess Alexandra in The Swan (MGM, 1956) before becoming Princess of Monaco. The wig is made of human hair and hand tied one strand of hair at a time into a lace mesh with silk bands in the interior to give the appearance of a scalp. Studio wigs at the time were custom made and fitted to measure by the star's head and hairline. An MGM label reads "785" and a Max Factor Studios label is inscribed "M4064 21/2" with a corresponding MGM wig stock record card typed "785 Grace Kelly Drab Blonde 3/4 fall Prod. #1684." The wig stock record has notes of the wig being checked out for two additional productions after the original production: for a 1963 commercial and for Maria Korda in The Fastest Guitar Alive (MGM, 1967). The wig was acquired from MGM upon the closure of its hair and wig department. Accompanied by a canvas wig block and a copy of the film. Categories:
