$1,000
A black silk velvet dance costume designed by Helen Rose and worn by Cyd Charisse in The Unfinished Dance (MGM, 1947). The dance costume is embellished with scattered jet-like sequins and has hand finishing work to the interior. The V-neck plunging V to the back has black mesh layered over nude souffle. A typed bias label reads "1433-5478 G.Rogers," indicating that the costume was possibly going to be used in The Barkleys of Broadway (MGM, 1949), although it was not seen in the final cut of the film. The costume was purchased from the MGM after sale in 1970 by a collector who worked at MGM at the time. Accompanied by two black and white studio images of Charisse in an identical costume.
