A dark brown 3/4 wig custom made for Elizabeth Taylor for the Academy Award nominated film Father of the Bride (MGM, 1950). The wig is made of human hair and hand tied one strand of hair at a time to a lace mesh with silk bands in the interior to give the appearance of a scalp. Studio wigs at the time were custom made and fitted to measure by the star's head and hairline. An MGM label reads "626A," and a Max Factor Studios label reads "F9641" with a corresponding MGM wig stock record card typed "626 E.Taylor Dk. Brown 3/4 fall" and production number inscribed "1484." Sydney Guilaroff was the hair designer on this film. The wig stock card indicates that the wig was later used by Midge Ware in The Cincinnati Kid starring Steve McQueen (MGM, 1965) and in the Elvis Presley film Spinout (MGM, 1966). The wig was acquired from MGM upon the closure of its hair and wig department. Accompanied by a canvas wig block and a copy of the film. Categories: Elizabeth Taylor
