A light grey wig custom made for Katharine Hepburn as Clara Wieck Schumann, the distinguished Romantic era pianist and wife of Robert Schumann, in Song of Love (MGM, 1947). The wig is made of human hair and hand tied one strand of hair at a time to a lace mesh with silk bands in the interior to give the appearance of a scalp. Studio wigs at the time were custom made and fitted to measure by the star's head and hairline. An MGM label reads "590" with a corresponding MGM wig stock record card typed "Katherine [sic] Hepburn Lt. grey 16" Prod. #1398." Sydney Guilaroff was the hair designer for this film. The wig was acquired from MGM upon the closure of its hair and wig department. Accompanied by a canvas wig block and a copy of the film. Categories:
