A dress made for The Wizard of Oz (MGM, 1939). The dress is made of the same cornflower blue cotton with a sheen as the various test dresses worn by Judy Garland during the first two weeks of filming under the direction of Richard Thorpe. The dress has a fitted bodice with a Peter Pan collar and puffed sleeves trimmed with white scalloping. Garland wears a similar style dress in a photograph of Dorothy with Auntie Em presented while meeting with Professor Marvel. Costume design by Adrian. It is believed that this piece was with the group of Wizard of Oz costumes pulled by Kent Warner for David Weisz for the 1970 MGM Auction but sold at a later date through Sotheby's. Accompanied by a copy of the film. Additionally, featured in the American Movie Classics documentary The Hollywood Fashion Machine : Faded Sequins , Tattered Dreams , Saving Hollywood's Classic Costumes (AMC, 2000). Previously exhibited: The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, "Hollywood 2000: The Eighth Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibit," February through April 2000.
